White Pinecone Sauce
By Ron Smith
We attended a pretty high-end art glass auction conducted by The Woody Auction Co. on Feb 18. There were several carnival box lots but lot #6 was advertised with a Fenton Pinecone 5″ sauce in white. This was the first box of carnival auctioned off and we had it in our possession in about ninety seconds into the auction. This was the only box we really wanted, and it was the only box we got. John Woody sold this Pinecone bowl to this gentleman and his wife many years ago before records were kept. It now has a new home.
Fenton only produced this pattern in plates and bowls in a couple of sizes. Known colors are marigold, blue, green, amethyst and amber. Looks like white needs to be added to the sauce bowl list now.
The other items in the box were an added bonus. For your information, the bonus items were a Millersburg green Peacock Tail Variant compote; Fenton blue, Orange Tree spooner and sugar with no lid, but the feet are perfect; a white, Orange Tree creamer and a sugar with no lid, these feet are not so good; and a piece of amberina colored stretch glass.
